03Trade-offs to know
- Not for welding — fusion welding causes cracking and severe strength loss; join mechanically.
- Lower corrosion resistance than 6000-series alloys — anodizing is recommended.
- Slower to extrude — simpler, thicker sections are preferred.
- Machines very well — the reason it dominates molds, tooling plates and precision parts.

How strong is 7075-T6 aluminum?
About 570 MPa tensile and 500 MPa yield — roughly twice 6061-T6 and among the highest of any common aluminum alloy.
Can 7075 aluminum be welded?
Not by conventional fusion welding. Use mechanical fastening or choose 7005 or 6061 if the part must be welded.
