03Why 6063 is chosen
- Surface quality. Extrudes with a smooth, bright surface — ideal for visible profiles.
- Anodizing. Produces even, clear and colored anodic finishes, including architectural classes.
- Complex shapes. Flows easily through dies, allowing thin walls, fine fins and multi-hollow sections.
- Thermal conductivity. Among the highest of the extrusion alloys — the reason heat sinks use it.

05Frequently asked questions
Is 6063 aluminum strong?
6063 is a medium-strength alloy: about 175–190 MPa tensile in T5 and 215–245 MPa in T6. That is ample for architectural, framing and thermal parts; for highly loaded structures, 6061, 6005A or 6082 are stronger.
Can 6063 aluminum be welded?
Yes, 6063 welds well by TIG and MIG, typically with 4043 or 5356 filler. Welding softens the heat-affected zone, so structural designs account for reduced strength near welds.
What is the difference between 6063-T5 and 6063-T6?
Both are artificially aged. T5 is press quenched; T6 is fully solution treated (or press quenched fast enough to match), reaching higher strength — about 215 MPa minimum tensile versus about 175 MPa for T5.
